A very merry warband!

With the holidays upon us, we couldn’t resist sharing these incredible New Antioch figurines, painted by Loïc Muzy!

The red and white colour scheme is very striking, and the wintery backdrop of snow-choked trenches make it look even better.

Loïc is from the east of France, and said his warband was inspired by the local culture. He named them “The Duke’s Alerions”, and even wrote a little backstory for them:

“In the east of the Holy Kingdom of France is a company which specialises in hunting down heretics. Created by the deposed King of Poland and Duke of Lorraine Stanislas Leszczynski, this contingent is made up of orphans from the Duchies of Lorraine and neighbouring regions such as Upper and Lower Alsace. They are raised and trained for a single purpose: to find and eradicate any evil threatening the kingdom.
They wear red and white, inspired both by the white uniform of the soldiers of the Kingdom of France, and the Lorraine coat of arms: three silver alerions on a red band. Red is the predominant colour of their uniforms, in honour of Nicolas de Myre, their patron saint, whose symbols and icons they bear.”

All in all, a fantastic paint job, and very in keeping with the season. All our thanks to Loïc for letting us share his work with the community!

A Saintly Patron

As Loïc’s work was inspired by Saint Nicholas, we decided to make a festive offering of our own, by turning him into a Patron!

Designer’s Note: This Patron has not been playtested, and should be considered as Experimental Rules. Please seek the consent of your fellow players if you wish to use Saint Nicholas as your Patron in a Campaign.

SAINT NICHOLAS
New Antioch and Trench Pilgrims Warbands only.
Your Patron is Saint Nicholas of Myra, patron saint of sailors and renowned figure of generosity and charity. As a Patron, Saint Nicholas’s legendary charitable nature extends outwards, offering your warband alms, helping them to cross stormy seas, allowing them to revel in the feast of his name and even offer your opponent an unexpected kindness. However, said opponents should not forget that Saint Nicholas was not beyond admonishing the heretic, with his very hand if needed.

Having Saint Nicholas as your Patron allows you to take the following skills:

Admonishment of Arius ACTION: A model with this Skill can take an Admonishment of Arius ACTION. If it does so, take a Risky Success Roll for the model. If the roll is a Failure, nothing happens and the model’s Activation ends. If the roll is a Success or Critical Success, the model has the FEAR Keyword until the end of the Turn, and you can place up to 1 BLOOD MARKER on an enemy model within 1” of the model taking the Admonishment of Arius ACTION.

Calm the Storm: Models in your Warband add +2 DICE to the Risky Success Rolls taken for Activating within or moving into Dangerous terrain that is at least partially made up of water (including swamps or marshes) whilst a model with this Skill is on the battlefield. You must agree with your opponent what Terrain pieces would be affected by this Skill at the start of the game.

Charitable Donation: You can add 100 ducats to your Strongbox when you take this Skill for a model in your Warband. The ducats are only gained once, when the Skill is chosen.

Feast Day: A model with this Skill ignores the Effect of the CONSUMABLE Keyword on any Battlekit that it has. A Warband can only have one model with this Skill.

Generous Offer: At the end of a game in which a model with this Skill was included in your Warband but not taken Out of Action, you may make your opponent a Generous Offer. If you do so, choose one model in your Warband that was taken Out of Action during the game. If the chosen model was a Troop, they automatically count as rolling a 3+ for their Survival Roll in the following Trauma Step. If the chosen model had the ELITE Keyword, they make a Full Recovery and do not roll on the Trauma Table in the following Trauma Step. Then, your opponent may do the same, but chooses a model in their Warband that was taken Out of Action instead.

Saintly Protection ACTION: Once per game, a model with this Skill can take a Saintly Protection ACTION. If it does so, take a Risky Success Roll for the model. If the roll is a Failure, nothing happens and the model’s Activation ends. If the roll is a Success or Critical Success, remove 1 BLOOD MARKER from up to 3 other friendly models within 6” of the model taking the Saintly Protection ACTION.

Have fun!
